Each year on the Tuesday of tournament week at the Travelers Championship, professionals and caddies are given a chance to hit a shot at the famous Travelers floating umbrella. The hole is known as The Umbrella at 15½, which is located between the 15th and 16th holes at TPC River Highlands.
The hole is 85 yards long and the target is a 40-foot umbrella. The players are given one attempt at the umbrella, with the closest to the pin winner receiving $10,000 to the charity of their choice.
Pretty cool initiative. The charity of my choice would be in trouble because that yardage makes me sweat and it typically turns a great drive into a double. Last year’s winner, Michael Kim, hit it to 7 inches. NO BIG DEAL.
That shot looks daunting to say the least. Yesterday’s winner was JJ Spaun. He hit it to 19 INCHES! SHEESH.
