YES! I love making picks to watch them fizzle out by Thursday at 3pm, eastern time of course. Let’s try playing the odds a little this week. Hell, theres a few tempting wagers to be had looking at these odds below. Lets get to it!
Match 1: Webb Simpson (11-1) vs. Bryson DeChambeau (7-1)
This is a great match up, but the way Bryson has been playing he is just soooo overdue. 5, 2, 4, 3, 8, 6 are the positions he’s finished the last 6 tournaments. Although Webb pulled out a win at the RBC Heritage, and also had a win back at the Waste Management in February, I don’t think he has enough to out play Bryson this week. I am 100 percent going to eat this next statement. I don’t think this week will be his week to get the win, but I expect Bryson to have another strong week and come in with another top 10 on his record.
Match 2: Patrick Reed (16-1) vs. Tyrrell Hatton (16-1)
If I was playing the odds here, everything would say flip a coin and call it. No, No, No. I’m going with Tyrrel Hatton this week over Patrick Reed. Actually, Hatton is going to win this weekend. I really thought he was striking the ball well at the RBC, dude has some mitts for a small guy. Pretty sure if the horn didn’t blow and force a weather delay, Hatton comes away with the W. I mean look at this guy, he knew that was the death blow.
Match 3: Tony Finau (33-1) vs. Hideki Matsuyama (18-1)
This is a really tough match to call. You would think based on the odds its a no brainer, but I honestly just don’t trust Tony. But wait, I don’t trust Hideki either. They are both fantastic player, but it’s just really hard to figure out what player is going to show up. Both of these guys are coming off missed cuts at the RBC Heritage a few weeks back and neither put on a good performance at the Schwab. If I had to pick, which I do. Hideki is the guy this week. Hopefully the week off last week let him settle down a bit and he can find a rhythm this week. I’m taking the odds, but it’s not a no brainer.
Match 4: Rickie Fowler (30-1) vs. Sungjae Im (25-1)
Sungjae, this kid is 22 and I’m pretty sure he still has braces? Whatever, although he didn’t have a great week at River Highlands and missed the cut in Hilton Head, I expect him to bounce back this week and finish above Rickie. The 22 year old has already posted a win at the Honda, and back to back top 10’s at the Arnold Palmer and Charles Schwab. Kid can play.
Not much to say about Rickie right now, hes been pretty quiet. He’s only played in 5 tournaments this year missing the cut 3 times. I’m not sure he’s in his best form right now and whatever he’s been doing I don’t think going to be enough to edge out Sungjae.
Match 5: Bubba Watson (50-1) vs. Kevin Kisner (7-1)
Love this! Love it! 50-1 with Bubba. I’ll take it! Watching Bubba the last few weeks he’s been lose, chatting it up and breaking balls with our boy Wesley Bryan. He hasn’t been playing terribly either. While Kisner is no push over, I have to go with the 50-1 underdog on this matchup. PICK OF THE WEEK. LOCK IT IN!
Match 6: Jason Day (60-1) vs. Viktor Hovland (20-1)
Really can’t go with Jason on this one, with his lingering back problems and now his concerns of getting coronavirus at the top of his mind, I just don’t think he is going to have the stuff both mentally and physically to take out Viktor this week who has been playing some really good golf over the last few weeks. He had a 21st place finish at the RBC heritage and improved into last week finishing just outside the top 10 shooting all four rounds sub 70. We should expect that to continue into this week and should be enough to place higher than Day to finish the week.
Match 7: Brendan Todd (70-1) vs. Nate Lashley (150-1)
Wow! What a kick in the nuts! Imagine winning this tournament the previous year and coming back to defend the title at odd of 150-1. LOL. I mean as much of a choke fest Todd put on last Sunday, he still played some really good golf all week. I’ll give Todd the nod on this match up. Brendan Todd should clean up Mr. Lashley. That is of course unless Brendon wants to throw up a few 7’s to make it interesting.
Once again, I’ll let you guys pick the winning score and see who comes out on top. Have a great week!
